1,200 truancies in 6 months

In an interview with the Times Metro Police Chief Ramsey talks about the MPC's efforts to help stem the DCPS truancy problem.
Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey said he is "really focusing" on truancy enforcement, noting that his officers have picked up more than 4,300 truants in the past 17 months — including about 1,200 since Jan. 1.

Public school officials said 1,460 truants were picked up during the 2003-04 school year.
While its great that the MPC are active in catching and returning truant kids the fact is the MPC shouldn't have to be wasting time, chasing down kids in the first place.
