More bad news from the IG
As the auditors keep digging into DCPS they apparently keep finding problems. This week it has to do with DCPS transit subsidies. The program allows students of DC public and charter schools to obtain discounted Metrofare card. Unfortunately, there seems to be very few checks and balances within the system and the audit uncovered instances where students could obtain more than one card, allowing them to use one and give away or sell the others. More troubling, perhaps, was what the audit didn't uncover: documentation. Over a year's worth of documentation related to the subsidy program cannot be found, which is in violation of the city's document retention laws.
