Two students shot outside of school

Two students have been shot outside of Roosevelt Senior High School this morning.
Police tell WTOP one young man -- a 19-year-old high school senior -- was shot in the back three times. Another young man, who is also a student, was grazed by a bullet, Fenty says.

Fenty, who represents Ward 4, tells WTOP it looks "like one of those targeted shootings" because the car drove up, shot at the senior and pulled off. Police have not speculated on a motive but do say they are looking into whether a neighborhood fight prompted the shootings.

The 19-year-old is in serious condition at Washington Hospital Center.
Students at Roosevelt and nearby MacFarland Middle School are being sheltered in place.
Students were being sheltered in place at MacFarland MS this morning after a shooting incident near the school injured two Roosevelt SHS students. Counselors will be made available for students who need them. DCPS officials encouraged parents to leave students at the schools for the remainder of the day. The incident is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.

This has nothing to do with the shooting, but a much nicer picture of Roosevelt (not perfect, but definitely more positive) is out in the Washington City Paper: http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/cover/2006/cover0414.html
