Speaking of school boards...

After (somewhat) digging myself out from under a mountain of work I intend to finally put together the list of questions to send out to the candidates running for Mayor, DC Council and the Board of Education. If you are a candidate running for office please drop me a line and let me know your contact information / campaign web address. If you have questions you would like to put to a candidate you can either email them to me (via the link in the top right hand corner) or leave them in the comment section.

I'm having deja vu.

Three questions:
1. Where do you stand on DC Public Charter School Board members, the gatekeepers to charter schools in the District, being from out of state?

2. What is your vision for the unused school building space now managed by the DCPS? Should this real estate be leased or sold? Should the properties be leased/sold by DCPS or the city (e.g. by Office of Property Management under Mayoral control and Council oversight)? What restrictions would you place on the lease or sale of these properities, if any?

3. The functions of State Education Agency (SEA) are currently split between the DC State Education Office (SEO) and DCPS. Do you favor the consolidation of those powers in the SEO, the status quo, or some other arrangement?

How do you feel about the burden of proof in special education hearings? Why do you think DC is one of the only districts that has the burden of proof? And why do you think that DC has the highest number of special education hearings in the country?
