D.C. Mayor Anthony A. Williams said yesterday that he is granting parents who work for the city government a "liberal leave" Monday so that they can accompany their children to school on the first day of classes. He urged business owners to make similar arrangements.
"It's important they meet the teachers and begin that interaction," Williams (D) said at a news conference that included Superintendent Clifford B. Janey and several school board members. "I'm hoping businesses in the District will extend that same leeway."
