Student shot in leg outside of DC school

A high school student has been hospitalized after being shot in the leg Thursday afternoon outside Cardozo High School.

D.C. Police believe the student -- a 17-year-old boy -- was shot during an argument. Another student may have fired the shots, police say.

The shooting happened around 12:15 p.m. at the corner of 13th and Clifton streets Northwest, just off school property, D.C. Public Schools spokeswoman Patricia Williams says.

Williams says the boy, a 10th grader, was taken to Howard University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is not clear why the student was not in class at the time, Williams says.

The school was under lockdown until dismissal. Police were present at the school and students were let out at 3:15 p.m. without incident.
