Alton Bigelow new acting assistant chief overseeing school security

New police chief Cathy Lanier has appointed Alton Bigelow as the acting assistant chief overseeing school security.
Bigelow is a 24-year veteran of the department. He had been head of Lanier's transition team and before that was an inspector in the 6th district. Bigelow had also been a captain in several units and started as a patrol officer in 1982.

Bigelow replaces Gerald Wilson, a former police chief in Prince George's County, who was hired to oversee D.C. school security. The D.C. Council shifted supervision of school security to the police department in response to the shooting death of a Ballou High School student in 2004.
