TI Update: director claims innocence

Teachers Institute Executive Director Sheila M. Ford, who is under investigation for fraud, has released a letter to the DC IG office proclaiming that the Institute has done nothing wrong.
“I am confident that the Teachers Institute’s records and practices will be seen to be above reproach.”

“I would greatly appreciate it if this work can commence and be completed as soon as possible so that our contribution to improving the education of the District’s children can proceed without interruption,” the letter said.

The institute has been paid millions of dollars since 2004 to train D.C. teachers in literacy programs. The Examiner has reported that Rhee asked the inspector general to pore over the institute’s books after a series of complaints about how the institute obtained its financing and used the public dollars it had been awarded.
