Hearing rules will not change

Mayor Fenty and Chancellor Rhee have been lobbying to change the legal requirements around public hearings on DCPS budget issues; i.e. lifting them. The proposal, as you can imagine, had met with a large amount of resistance from parents groups and education advocates in the District. Tuesday the DC Council voted down any changes to the current rule, handing the Mayor and Chancellor a rare defeat.
