Mathews on why the easy way out can sometimes stink

The Post's Jay Mathews looks at the District's dilemma about what to do with teachers from the 20+ school it is closing this year. The District, like almost all other public school districts, gives priority to the teachers with the longest tenure. While this makes the teachers', union's and administrators' lives easier, it mostly ends up screwing over the students. A good read.
