Four year old special needs student left alone on bus

This morning a four year old special needs student who attends Walker Jones Education Campus school was left alone on his schoolbus after the morning drop-off and wasn't discovered until the driver and attendent were prepping for the afternoon trip home.

He had been picked up from his home at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday and the bus traveled to his school. OSSE says it is unclear why the child did not get off the bus.
The bus then returned to the bus terminal in Southwest D.C. at 8:52 a.m. The driver and attendant got off the bus, but did not notice the student, who apparently fell asleep on the bus.
At 2:05 p.m., the driver and attendant came back to the bus for their afternoon route and located the student still seated on the bus in his booster seat. The child was awake, alert and was not crying.
OSSE says the terminal manager notified the DOT Director and the student's mother.
